Richard is the fourth generation of his family to own and run hotels in Devon. After spending many school holidays working within his parent's hotel, he decided he wanted to pursue a career in hospitality. After A-levels, Richard joined the Savoy Group of Hotels and Restaurants' Management Training scheme and spent six years with the Company. In London he worked at The Savoy, Claridge's and The Connaught; spent a year at the Lygon Arms in Broadway and a season at the Hotel du Cap, Eden-Roc in the South of France. In 1997 Richard returned to Devon and purchased the Ilsington Country House Hotel with his brother Tim, who is also a Master Innholder. He has developed the business into a 4-star, 2 AA rosette hotel and Spa and enjoys being 'hands-on' when required.
