THE MASTER INNHOLDERS CAME IN BEING IN 1978 AT THE
INVITATION OF
THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF INNHOLDERS

The Worshipful Company of Innholders is one of the many City Livery Companies.

Its origins lie in the medieval guilds which were formed under licence of the Crown

and the Corporation to regulate their crafts, trades or services within the square mile.

The WCI received their first charter from Henry V111 in 1514. Seven years later they were occupying a Hall on the present site on Dowgate Hill. The Hall was destroyed in the Great Fire of

1666 and was rebuilt in 1670. The Hall underwent radical repairs in the 1880's, it was badly damaged in the blitz of 1941 and again rebuilt in 1947 - 1952.Further restoration and modernization were completed in 1990.

From the earliest days the WCI not only controlled the trade of innkeeping in the City but distributed funds, bequeathed by liverymen for charitable purposes. Currently the WCI maintains homes for the elderly and supports many charitable projects and trusts.
